      <image:title>Resources - Big Paws (a collaboration) - About Catherine and Cara:</image:title>
<image:caption>“My name's Catherine and I have a Great Dane button-learner, named Cara. She joined me in my home on the 27th March 2022 at 9 weeks old. I lasted a week before I put down her first 5 buttons at 10 weeks of age. Straight away she pressed a button. It was accidental/experimental, of course, but still! Straight away she had given me an opportunity to action her button presses to show her they had meaning. With regards to my worry of her chewing, I was very lucky that she rarely attempted to chew the buttons or tiles. On the few occasions she did, I quickly distracted her with appropriate toys. (Never get angry or frustrated with them as it unknowingly shows them that you don't like them interacting with the soundboard, which isn't the case at all!)”</image:caption>

Willis was a Connect alpha tester, so he has been using the prototype for some time and recently received the production version. The soundboard currently comprises 25 words. “Treat”, “Outside “, “Willis” and “Play” are his most frequently used words, and “Treat, Willis” is his most frequently used word combination.”</image:caption>

      <image:title>Resources - Should You Remove That Button?</image:title>
<image:caption>Bunny hardly engaged with the “Outside” button for the first few months. Some puppies press Outside day 1, but she didn’t want to use that button at all, even when she very clearly understood its meaning and was pressing lots of other buttons. Over a year on, she requests “Outside” using her buttons most of the time, including at night or when everyone is distracted. It took time and lots of modelling but is now one of the most valuable buttons.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Resources - Should You Remove That Button?</image:title>
<image:caption>Imagine the “Donkey” toy that had its own button met an unfortunate end. If you’re planning to replace Ellie the Elephant then leave the button down and get to the pet shop, otherwise take the button up. If “Donkey” now means any soft toy with no squeak, then keep the button, because your learner has altered the concept behind that word.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We want to make sure you took that point in, because it’s crucial. <image:title>Resources - Puppies, kittens and animals new to your home - when is the right time to introduce buttons? - Baby Bunny looking out the window</image:title>
<image:caption>“At 2kg a 3 month old puppy had no chance of activating buttons the size of the Learning Resource buttons, and we had a couple of wasted weeks trying to use them without success. That goes double for kittens and cats, who tend to have more trouble learning to use their body weight to press down with their paw.”</image:caption>

<image:caption>I don’t really like the phrase “heart dog” for the same reason I don’t really like “soul mate.” It feels limiting to me to imply that we are only capable of one great love. But you guys, I love Bertie so much. I’ve had many pets in my life but none like him. None of them that felt like they carried a piece of my soul with them.</image:caption>

<image:title>Ask TTB - How can I help my learner tell buttons apart? - Bunny’s slightly less grubby board has custom labels</image:title>
<image:caption>Hue and Saturation can make a big difference. “Good Girl” and “Annie” are both blue but are clearly distinct from each other and from the other colors on the tile. These labels were printed on the sticker labels linked above and covered with packing tape.</image:caption>

<image:title>Ask TTB - How can I help my learner tell buttons apart? - Bertie’s grubby board has very DIY labels with an emphasis on distinct shapes</image:title>
<image:caption>Some of these are a little hard to see in this pic but I think it’s clear that they all look different from each other. These are all just the labels that FP includes with the buttons. You can see “Mad” and “Concerned” on the center tile would look very very similar if I hadn’t altered them. I bet you can tell which is which even if you can’t read the label. The bright cartoony looking shapes are buttons we’ve added scratch and sniff stickers to. I’m not sure the scents have been super helpful to Bertie but they still add visual distinction even after the watermelon or root beer smells have worn away.</image:caption>
